Neuroscience is one of the leading areas of scientific investigation currently at the forefront of modern biomedical research. BRI's research programs in neuroscience relate to the unraveling of the complex processes involved in the pathologies of neurodegenerative diseases. By understanding the mechanisms involved in the progression of these diseases, we aim to identify novel molecular targets associated with defective and impaired neurotransmission and, to develop therapeutics and diagnostics for the treatment of neurological diseases.

Protein Engineering & Design
BRI scientists use high-resolution multidimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and genetic engineering approaches to elucidate the structure and function of biological macro-molecules and the structural basis of their interactions with lead compounds. Such information is instrumental to target selection and lead identification and can be further utilized in the design of potential lead compounds.

Plant Biotechnology
BRI's research program in plant biotechnology aims to apply genetic engineering techniques for crop improvement benefiting the agricultural economy of the region.
